Pathways to Indigenous Studies (BA) at Laurier

Throughout your Indigenous Studies degree, you will take courses in topics such as Indigenous perspectives on globalization, the people of the Longhouse, Indigenous pedagogy and Indigenous research methodologies.

Once you have accepted your offer, please consult Academic Advising and our Course Registration Guide to determine where you are with your program requirements, the specific courses you'll need to complete and the length of your academic journey at Laurier.

If you're successful in gaining admission to one of these pathways and wish to complete the Teaching Minor, be aware that you'll need to take extra courses, which may lengthen the time needed to complete the Indigenous Studies (BA) program.

Indigenous Specializations (Lambton and Mohawk College)

Students who have completed Lambton College's Liberal Studies-Indigenous Studies diploma or Mohawk College's General Arts and Science (University Transfer) diploma with an Indigenous specialization may be eligible for admission into the Indigenous Studies program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this 2+2 agreement. 

• Required final average from either diploma program: 75%
• Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
• Number of transfer credits granted: 10.0
• Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 10.0

Mohawk College 

• INDS10030: First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Perspectives
• INDS10031: Impacts of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
• INDS10032: Indigenous Peoples Evolving Media & Artistic Images
• INDS10034: Indigenous Wholistic Practices
• INDS10035: Indigenous Connections to the Land
• INDS10036: First Nations Languages – Resilience and Reclamations
• INDS10037: Indigenous Families Structures and Child Welfare
• INDS10038: Global Citizenship – First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Perspectives 

Anticipated Transfer Credits 

These are the transfer credits you will receive, outlined in your offer letter, if you are admitted to this pathway:

• SOJE215: Environmental Concerns: From the Grand to the Globe
• SOJE312: Sustainability and Global Society.
• SOJE403: Community Internship (1.0 credit)
• ID100: Indigenous Peoples and Media
• ID120: Introduction to Indigenous Studies
• 2.0 credits: Indigenous Studies (200 level).
• 3.0 credits: Interdisciplinary (100 level)
• 1.0 credit: Interdisciplinary (200 level) 

2 or 3 Year College Diplomas

Students who have successfully completed a 2- or 3-year  diploma at an Ontario college may be eligible for admission into the Indigenous Studies (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this block transfer agreement.

• Required final average from an approved diploma: 75%+   
• Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
• Number of transfer credits granted: 6.0 (2-year diploma) or 7.5 (3-year diploma)*
• Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 12.5 to 14.0 

*Please note: Your exact transfer credits will be determined based on your unique academic journey and outlined in your offer letter.

If you are interested in transferring into this program with an academic history different than what is outlined above, apply using the undergraduate application form and your transfer credits will be assessed on an individual basis and reported to you, along with your offer letter, upon admission to Laurier.
