Pathways to Human Rights (BA) at Laurier

Throughout your Human Rights degree, you will take courses in topics such as diversity, advocacy, cross-cultural perspectives, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and more.

Once you have accepted your offer, please consult Academic Advising and our Course Registration Guide to determine where you are with your program requirements, the specific courses you'll need to complete and the length of your academic journey at Laurier.

2 or 3 Year College Diplomas

Students who have successfully completed a 2- or 3-year diploma at an Ontario college may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this block transfer agreement.

• Required final average from an approved diploma: 75%+
• Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
• Number of transfer credits granted: 6.0 (2-year diploma) or 7.5 (3-year diploma)*
• Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 12.5 – 14.0 

Please note: Your exact transfer credits will be determined based on your unique academic journey and outlined in your offer letter.

Enhance or Diversify Your Degree

As a transfer student, you can add a minor in various fields to your honours BA degree to broaden and enhance your academic studies. Learn more about what minors are available to you.

General Arts and Science Diploma (Mohawk College)

Students who have successfully completed Mohawk College's General Arts and Science diploma may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this 2+2 agreement.

• Required final average from this diploma: 75%+ 
• Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation 
• Number of transfer credits granted: 10.0 
• Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 10.0  

Required Mohawk Courses

To be eligible for this pathway, you must complete the following in addition to the seven (7) required courses of your Mohawk program:

• PSOL10013: Introduction to Government in Society
• SSCI10047: Introduction to Sociology
• A minimum of eight courses must be completed from the courses listed below:
  • HIST10020: History of War & Society in the 20th Century
  • HIST10022: History of Western Civilization II

Human Services Foundations Certificate (Conestoga College)

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Human Services Foundations certificate may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement.

• Required final average from this certificate : 75%+   
• Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
• Number of transfer credits granted: 4.0 
• Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 16.0

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Office Administration General certificate may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement.

• Required final average from this certificate: 75%+   
• Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
• Number of transfer credits granted: 3.5 
• Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 16.5

Select Graduate Certificates (Conestoga College)

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Career Development Professional or Project Management graduate certificate, may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement. Graduates must have also earned a diploma or advanced diploma from an accredited college*.  

• Required final average from graduate certificate: 70%+   
• Required final average from diploma or advanced diploma: 75%+
• Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
• Number of transfer credits granted: 5.0+**
• Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 10.0+ 

* If you have previously completed an undergraduate degree, you will be admitted to Post-Degree Studies where you can choose to work towards a Human Rights (BA) degree. 

**Eligible transfer applicants will be granted 5.0 transfer credits from completing the graduate certificate program, in addition to any additional transfer credits they are eligible for from their diploma or advanced diploma, according to Laurier’s transfer credit policy.

Multi-Degree Pathway (Conestoga College)

In only four years, you can earn a Human Rights (BA) degree from Laurier and one of the following graduate certificates from Conestoga College: Career Development Professional, Human Resources Management, Management in Community Services or Project Management. 

Standard Academic Schedule

The standard academic schedule as part of this multi-degree pathway will look like:  

• Year 1: Attend Laurier 
• Year 2: Attend Laurier and apply to the pathway
• Year 3: Attend Conestoga College
• Year 4: Attend Laurier 

The timeline in which you attend Laurier may look different than what is listed above. You must have completed 10.0+ Laurier credits (including at least 2.5 credits towards your Human Rights major) before starting at Conestoga College.

If you are interested in transferring into this program with an academic history different than what is outlined above, apply using the undergraduate application form and your transfer credits will be assessed on an individual basis and reported to you, along with your offer letter, upon admission to Laurier.
