At this time, our Bachelor of Education program does not accept deferral requests. Because this program is highly competitive, we strongly encourage you to accept your offer if you are genuinely interested in the program and pursuing this career path. Receiving an offer this year does not guarantee admission in future years.
Absolutely! Each application is assessed on its own merit. You can accept a current offer to the BEd program even while awaiting another decision from Laurier or an alternate institution. If you later receive an offer that you prefer, you can update your acceptance accordingly.
Courses are usually scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday. There may be some evening classes on Monday-Thursday. Classes are mostly in-person, but some elective courses may be virtual synchronous. You will have approximately 17-20 hours of class per week, in addition to a full practicum day on most Mondays.
We use a cohort model to structure course registration and will pre-register everyone in their required courses based on this model. This means that before the term begins, we will pre-register you in your required courses based on your assigned cohort. Your cohort will be assigned to you upon entering Laurier and will consist of the group of students with whom you progress through your required courses.
You will only need to register for your elective courses. Students will receive their registration package in the summer and can prepare to register in mid-July.
We will provide you with your cohort schedule in the month of June.
We have been fortunate to be able to provide opportunities over the years, and once they are confirmed, they will be advertised to you. Some international placements have a limited number of spaces, however, we offer a variety of opportunities and try to accommodate as many participants as possible.
This is a placement that the student can find outside of the realm of classroom teaching. It can include coaching, mentoring, International Placement, or working on special initiatives with instructors. Students need to register their alternative placements with the Practicum Office and receive approval before they can begin.
Practicum placements are not paid, as they are part of the degree qualifications. Laurier partners with over 17 school boards. You will have the opportunity to indicate your preferred school boards for practicum placement; practicum placements are finalized by our Practicum Office.
Tuition and incidental fees are typically charged for each 0.5 credit that students are enrolled in. For the fee schedule, please see our tuition and fees webpage. You can expect the fee schedule for 2026-2027 to be updated in the next few months. Laurier also provides and supports ample funding opportunities such as provincial financial aid, competitive awards and scholarships and bursaries based on financial need. For all of our important award applications and deadlines, please visit our Awards webpage.
At this time, we are not aware of any policy changes to the structure and format of Bachelor of Education programs in Ontario. If there are any changes to the BEd program in the future, the potential changes will be communicated to you as soon as they are available.
Laurier’s BEd program is offered on both its Waterloo and Brantford campuses. The Laurier Brantford campus is an integrated campus within the city’s downtown core, and the Laurier Waterloo campus is a campus setting where classrooms, residences and student spaces are located within a dedicated campus space. There are extensive Student Services available on both campuses to help you thrive as a student in your academics, relationships, campus involvement and wellness.
Laurier’s BEd program is based on a Professional Development School (PDS) model which allows you to establish close, personal, and interactive professional relationships with school personnel, communities and fellow students. With supportive faculty, innovative learning opportunities, and a tight-knit program community, you will be provided with the time and attention you need to grow as a lifelong learning and educator.
Our program will help you apply the knowledge and skills from academic coursework to meet the needs of diverse learners within the socio-cultural context of schools when you enter the teaching profession. Our BEd program provides many more days of Practicum than the required 80 days in Ontario. This extra real-life experience in schools will be valued by future employers.
