New in 2026-2027!
Beginning Sept 1, 2026, all tuition payments must be made through secure credit card auto-pay. Your payment details will be stored securely in Stripe, and your monthly tuition will be automatically charged between the 1st and 5th of the month.
Why this change?
When will I be charged?
Auto-payments will be processed on the 1st to 5th of each month. You will receive a receipt by email to show that the payment has been made.
Will lesson fees change because of this?
No, this change only affects how payments are processed, not the lesson fees themselves.
Can I opt-out of auto-payment? What if I cannot pay by credit card?
Auto-payment is now our standard billing method. If you do not have access to a credit card, please contact us right away. We will explore limited alternatives on a case-by-case basis for families with exceptional circumstances.
Can I review or dispute a charge?
If you believe a payment is incorrect, please let us know by the 10th of each month. Adjustments will be applied before payments are processed whenever possible.
What happens if a payment fails?
Stripe will try to process payment several times. If a payment is declined, we will notify you and provide instructions to update your payment method. Lessons may be paused if payment issues are not resolved promptly.
Can I update my payment method?
Yes, you can update your payment information at any time. Please contact the office (LAMA@wlu.ca) for assistance.
What is Stripe? Is it secure?
Stripe is the secure payment platform that LAMA has been using for several years. It has been thoroughly reviewed and approved by Wilfrid Laurier University, and it meets all required privacy and security standards.
What if I want to cancel lessons?
Our cancellation policy has not changed, you may cancel lessons at any time with four lessons’ notice. To proceed, please contact Becky Verdun at the LAMA office (LAMA@wlu.ca). She will be happy to calculate your final balance and arrange for your autopayments to be cancelled.
A Note About Our Teachers
We are incredibly privileged as a school to have such skilled teachers. This change ensures instructors are paid fully and reliably for all lessons delivered.
Registering for the full year: September 2025 to June 2026
Families may choose to pay for the entire year upfront or on a monthly basis. Monthly tuition will be charged in 10 equal instalments, September through June. Please note that the each bill reflects the number of lessons your teacher provides for the full year at your teacher's rate, divided by ten (10) equal instalments. It does not reflect the actual number of lessons in that month.
Registering mid-year: anytime until June 2026
Families may choose to pay for the remainder of the year upfront, or in monthly instalments. After registration, you will receive 2 invoices: a registration fee of $35, and the number of remaining lessons for that month. In the months following until June 1, you will receive a monthly bill based on the number of lessons remaining. For example: 20 lessons remaining at $35 each = $1260, 5 payment periods remaining (Feb. 1 to June 1), is $140/month.
Unpaid invoices
If you have an unpaid invoice, teachers may discontinue lessons immediately until payment is made. No makeup lessons will be provided for missed lessons due to unpaid invoices.
Summer lessons
Lessons may be offered in the summer, dependent on teacher availability. Payment for summer lessons are to be made in June in a lump sum.
Please contact the school directly with any questions.
Four lessons of notice must be given to discontinue lessons. You will be billed up to and including the 4-lesson notice period. For example, if you have taken 20 lessons in the academic year and then discontinue, you will be billed for 24 lessons total. If you pay upfront for the year, a refund can be provided.
There are no refunds for group classes once payment has been made.
Trial lessons can be booked with available teachers. All trial lesson rates are the same as the teacher rates.
In conformance with the guidelines of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association, there will be no adjustment for missed lessons at any time. Lessons missed by the teacher will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time.
"A child is excused from attendance at school if he/she is absent from school for the purpose of receiving instruction in music and the period of absence does not exceed one-half day in any week."
– The School Administration Act, Section 6, Subsection 2
Students studying with the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada may be eligible to earn credits toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Ask your instructor for details.
The Laurier Academy of Music and Arts will be closed in the event of severe weather when normal operation would pose a significant danger to faculty, staff and students. Wilfrid Laurier University which includes the Laurier Academy of Music and Arts may close for the morning, afternoon, evening or for the entire day. In each case the closure announcement and reopening time will be communicated to you by your teacher. Lessons missed due to school closure will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time, or they may be held virtually.
