Biochemistry/Biotechnology (BSc) and Biotechnology Technician Diploma (with Conestoga College)

Biochemistry and the associated sub-discipline of biotechnology are two of the fastest-growing areas of science, and now you can combine our Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biochemistry and Biotechnology with Conestoga College’s Biotechnology Technician Diploma and earn two degrees in five years!

You’ll spend four years at Laurier and one year at Conestoga College. (Completing both degrees separately would normally take six years.)

The Canadian Society for Chemistry has accredited the thesis option of this program.


Program Highlights

  • In our Biochemistry and Biotechnology program, you’ll benefit from a research-intensive environment. In your fourth year, you'll have an option to complete a senior thesis research project, which will provide you with hands-on experience.
  • The Conestoga College diploma will provide you with the laboratory skills and technical knowledge required for you to work as a technician.

Requirements

  • Admission range of mid-70s.
  • English, Biology, and Advanced Functions at 60%.
  • Chemistry at 70%.
  • All prerequisite courses calculated in admission average.

International Baccalaureate Requirements

  • HL or SL English at 3.
  • HL or SL Biology at 3.
  • HL or SL Chemistry at 4.
  • HL or SL Mathematics at 3.
  • IB Minimum Score: 26.

Careers

This program will provide you with the practical and research skills needed to meet the demanding requirements of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, as well as biochemical and health science research and service laboratories. Our program also provides a strong educational background for those interested in continuing their studies at the graduate level in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, biophysics, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry or other health science-related programs.
