Standard classical repertoire is an essential part of our training at Laurier. You will be encouraged to explore your own voice through collaborative ventures in contemporary genres and contexts. The Penderecki String Quartet is the quartet-in-residence at Laurier where we have been teaching and rehearsing for 30 years. We operate in cooperative ways, opening our door to all who seek us out. The wonderful benefit for you as a student is that you’ll feel like you are studying with all of us.
Admission to the Bachelor of Music is based on the collective results of your audition, academics, theory and ear training test, interview, reference and optional portfolio.
Audition repertoire should be performed at a Grade 8 RCM level or higher. RCM formal training and exams are not required.
Be confident in where you are at in your development. Everyone’s path is unique as students grow in their own individual ways. Sometimes we see rapid growth in some areas. Sometimes our riddles need more time to sort through. Be patient with yourself.
Remember the audition panel wants to get to know you, so be proud of who you are and why you are. Dream big!
