PhD in Management, Accounting
I completed my undergrad at Laurier and fell in love with the school. There is such a strong sense of community, which I knew was going to be important to me during my PhD. I am now part of such a great group of behavioural accounting researchers at Laurier. This group of faculty and fellow PhD students are very supportive and encourage collaboration. My interests are also aligned with my advisors’ interests, and I have learned and will continue to learn, so much from them.
My research interests include performance measurement, incentive designs, and other behavioural topics in management accounting.
In my doctoral dissertation, I am examining the practice of voluntary pay cuts. To implement a voluntary pay cut, the firm offers its employees the choice to either accept a reduction in their pay in an attempt to limit layoffs or to remain at their current pay level. Evidence from the field suggests that some companies have reacted to the negative financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing voluntary pay cuts. Despite the prevalence of voluntary pay cuts in practice, it remains unclear what influences employees' decision to accept a voluntary pay cut and what the consequences of this practice are.
My goal is to attain a tenure track faculty position in Accounting. I look forward to continuing to conduct innovative and impactful management accounting research relevant to the accounting profession. I am also eager to contribute to the knowledge of future CPAs by providing high-quality teaching.
