You know what they say about all work and no play. We offer state-of-the-art facilities where students can take fitness classes, participate in intramural sports or compete in varsity athletics.
Don’t just sit there. Climb a rock wall. Take a dance class. Give yoga a shot. Whether you’re working out at our newly renovated, 20,000-square-foot Athletic Complex in Waterloo, or taking a fitness class at the Wilkes House Recreation Centre in Brantford, if you’ve got the energy, we’ve got a program for you.
The Athletic Complex (AC) in Waterloo includes an Olympic-size pool, a triple gymnasium, dance studios, and a large fitness centre that received a $5-million expansion in 2013. Outside, Alumni Field offers a full-sized, FIFA-certified, artificial surface for both intramurals and club teams. University Stadium is home to Golden Hawk football, soccer, rugby and lacrosse. If you’re not on the field, find a spot in the bleachers and show your Golden Hawk spirit.
In Brantford, you can enjoy fitness classes and intramurals in the Wilkes House Recreation Centre. Other intramural programs take advantage of the City of Brantford parks and recreational space for hockey, softball and soccer. We also entered into an agreement with the local YMCA to build a $58-million recreation, athletics and wellness facility that will support the needs of our growing campus.
Every year, half our student body participates in our award-winning intramural program. Whether you want to lace up your sneakers for dodgeball, sharpen your skates for ice hockey, or don a swimsuit for inner tube water polo in an Olympic-size swimming pool, there is an intramural sport for everyone.
Cheer on our Golden Hawks as they compete in 13 different sports in the Ontario University Athletics conference – our varsity teams have won 14 national and 69 provincial championships. Unique to Laurier's Brantford campus are “extramurals” – tournament-based competitive sports – where the Golden Hawks compete in five sports against other colleges and universities across Ontario.
Looking for a unique sporting experience? Check out our club sports, run by students for students. With more than 20 different clubs available, you can participate in a wide variety of competitive and recreational sports and activities, including men’s lacrosse, karate, ball hockey, equestrian and dragon boat racing.
