Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

This page contains important information about the wait list process for the Health Sciences and Kinesiology programs.

If you receive notice that you are placed on the wait list for one of these programs, this means you also received an offer to Laurier for Core Sciences.

It's recommended that you read the following information, including the frequently asked questions section below. If you have any questions, contact the Recruitment and Admissions office: email chooselaurier@wlu.ca or call 519.884.0710 x3385.

Study Core Sciences

We recognize your academic achievement and there's a place for you here. That's why we've offered you an alternate offer to Core SciencesInstead of giving you an alternate offer to a science program you might not be interested in, Core Sciences enables you to enrol at Laurier and gain access to supports so that you can enrol in a Faculty of Science program that best suits your interests and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Review our frequently asked questions to learn more about the wait list process and to help you plan your next steps.

What is a wait list?

"Wait list" is short for "waiting list." Students who are placed on a wait list may receive an offer of admission to the Kinesiology or Health Sciences programs if space becomes available.

Laurier uses wait lists to ensure specific enrolment numbers for competitive programs. Due to a high number of strong applicants, Laurier must monitor admission to these programs very carefully.

If space is available in the program after the June 1 confirmation deadline, Laurier will issue additional offers to Heath Sciences and Kinesiology to select candidates from the wait list.

Why Am I On the Wait List?

Wait lists are used to ensure programs are not over-enrolled and to ensure the most qualified applicants are accepted. You have been placed on the wait list because you achieved a high academic standing; however, space in this program is very limited.

If you received notice that you have been placed on the wait list, this means you also received an offer to Core Sciences.

Can I Find Out My Place on the Wait List?

Laurier is not able to confirm an applicant’s place on the wait list because this information changes frequently.

Laurier also does not disclose wait list information because we cannot confirm how many candidates will be selected from the wait list.

Can I Take Summer School Courses to Upgrade?

If Laurier is able to issue offers of admission to wait-listed applicants, we will begin doing so immediately following the June 1 confirmation deadline. Therefore, we are not able to consider summer school courses.

When Will I Find Out If I am Selected From the Wait List?

We will notify all wait-listed applicants of their status after June 1, 2022. The last date you could hear from us is Aug. 1, 2022.

Will I Be Notified if I Am Not Selected?

Yes. As soon as we are able to, we will notify you when your status on the wait list changes. We will email students who were not selected from the wait list when the program becomes full. The last date you could hear from us is Aug. 1, 2022.

How Will I Be Notified?

We will notify you by email if you are selected from the wait list. Please ensure your contact information is up to date in your applicant portal account. We will email students who were not selected from the wait list when the program becomes full. The last date you could hear from us is Aug. 1, 2022.

The applicant portal is where you can find everything you need related to your application to Laurier. If you're using your portal for the first time, review our instructions for logging in to your portal.

What Happens if I Am Selected From the Wait List?

We will notify you personally by email if you have been selected from the wait list. You will have 48 hours to decide whether or not you want to accept your offer to Health Sciences or Kinesiology (depending on which program you applied to).

If you notify us that you wish to accept your offer, we will accept it on your behalf and you will notice this change in your applicant portal account within 24 to 48 hours.

What Happens If I Am Not Selected From the Wait List?

If you are not selected for admission to Health Sciences or Kinesiology, and you have accepted your alternate offer, you will enrol in Core Sciences.

The confirmation deadline is June 1, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.

If I Am Selected From the Wait List, Can I Still Keep My Alternate Offer?

It is your decision to choose which program you would like to accept. You can decide to accept your wait list offer of admission or continue with Core Sciences.

If you do not accept your new offer, you will be removed from the wait list and will not be re-added.

If I Do Not Accept My Alternate Offer to Laurier, Will I Still Be Notified If I Am Selected From the Wait List?

Yes, you will be notified regardless of whether or not you accept your alternate offer to Core Sciences.

If you accept another institution’s offer of admission and choose to accept your offer to Health Sciences or Kinesiology, you will have to cancel your registration at the other institution. Before you cancel your registration, you should familiarize yourself with their cancellation policies.

Please note that space in Laurier’s residence buildings will be limited after June 1 and is not guaranteed.

Should I Apply to Live in Residence

If you plan to attend Laurier and live in residence, you should accept your current offer of admission and submit your residence application by the June 1 deadline to secure your residence spot. This way, if your program changes after June 1, you will be guaranteed your spot in residence.

Laurier guarantees residence to all incoming first-year students who are attending a postsecondary institution for the first time. To receive a guaranteed spot in residence, you will need to submit a $600 non-refundable deposit and completed application by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on June 1, 2021.
