Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Third-Year Bachelor of Business Administration
Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Welcome Future Golden Hawks!

My name is Urbashi Das, and I am in my third year of the honours Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program here at Laurier. I was born and raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates until the age of 16, thus I only moved to Canada a mere 4 years ago. Even though I am not an international student in its truest sense, I am still very attached and connected to my traditional Indian roots. This year, I have the honour and the amazing opportunity to be the Lead International Ambassador for 2015 – 2016. I am extremely excited to work with this year’s amazing team and do wonderful things!

Choosing the perfect university is a huge decision. It can be considered as the first grown-up decision that you have to make, finding a university that fits your needs and your personality. For instance, I was torn between two great universities, but I’m extremely glad that I made the right decision for myself by choosing Laurier! Laurier strikes the perfect balance between academics, school spirit and a fun atmosphere. Everyone has different priorities and reputation was definitely one of mine. Laurier fit that bill perfectly since it has an excellent reputation for the Business program and it has the largest business degree co-op program in Canada.

Laurier is such a fun community, there is a club for almost anything and if there isn’t one, you can always start your own club! One of the highlights of my first year was being part of the executive team of Women in Leadership Laurier (WILL). WILL gave me a chance to test theories that I was learning in lectures in the real world as well as let me express my beliefs on women in the business world. Now, in my third year, I am also a Residence Life Don, welcoming and helping first years like you to transition successfully to university. Laurier has shaped me into a well-rounded individual and I cannot wait for you to discover how amazing Laurier is for yourself. Stay golden, friends!
