Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Taking into consideration public health advice and the health of our community, some activities on Laurier’s campuses will see reduced hours, cancellations or closures.

Academic Activities

Laurier is discontinuing in-person instruction in all courses effective Monday, March 16 at 8:30 a.m. for the remainder of the winter 2020 term. Instructors are developing and communicating plans for alternative instruction and assessment to enable students to fulfil learning outcomes and receive course credits.

Events

Laurier has cancelled or postponed all events not part of courses or academic requirements from noon March 13 to April 30. 

Campus services and spaces

At this time, the university remains open. However, the following services and spaces are impacted by adjusted hours or closures:

Athletics and Recreation

The Department of Athletics and Recreation has closed all recreational facilities on the Waterloo campus, effective Monday, March 16, 2020.

The YMCA of Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford has closed the Laurier Brantford YMCA facilities until April 3, 2020.

Computer Labs

Taking into consideration public health advice and the health of our community, Laurier computer labs are no longer available until further notice. For any support needs that you may have, contact support@mylaurier.ca.

Distribution Services

As an essential service, Distribution Services on the Waterloo campus will continue to operate as Central Receiving between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, Monday to Friday.

  • All internal delivery operations will cease, Tuesday, March 17. Incoming mail and parcels will be held until further notice.
  • Daily courier services between the Waterloo and Brantford campus will cease until further notice.

Distribution Services on the Brantford campus are closed, effective March 17. 

  • All delivery operations will cease, Tuesday, March 17.
  • External couriers have been asked to hold all parcels until further notice.
  • Daily courier services between the Waterloo and Brantford campus will cease until further notice.
  • The lbdistribution@wlu.ca email will continue to be monitored daily.

Food Services

As of March 21, Fresh Food Company is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

All other food services are closed

Library

All Laurier campus library buildings closed until April 5, 2020. 

During this period of closure, all online resources and services, including a wide range of electronic collections, Omni search tool, Ares (for course readings and reserves), Ask Us online help services, course help pages, subject research guides and Library help videos will be accessible at library.wlu.ca.

Printing Services

All physical Printing Services locations are closed, which includes R137, The Hub and Concourse locations. The email accounts printing_services@wlu.ca, fleet@wlu.ca, signage@wlu.ca and WebPrint are being monitored throughout the day. Printing Services will continue to support any essential/urgent print.

Research

Residences

Laurier is requiring all students to move out of Laurier-operated residences at all campus locations by Wednesday, March 18 at 11:59 p.m., except under exceptional circumstances.

Service Laurier

Service Laurier’s call centre and in-person service centre are closed.

Emails are being answered and you will receive a response in one to three business days. Email all inquiries to servicelaurier@wlu.ca.

Toronto Office

Laurier’s Toronto administrative office, located at 130 King Street W., Toronto, is closed until March 30, 2020, after which point we will re-evaluate. Toronto Office inquiries can be directed to Carolyn Hawthorn at chawthorn@wlu.ca.
