Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Wilfrid Laurier University will host the 13th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to raise funds for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region and awareness about hunger in the community. The fundraiser will be presented by Laurier’s Robert Langen Art Gallery, in partnership with The Food Bank of Waterloo Region and Waterloo Potters’ Workshop.
Empty Bowls will take place on Tuesday, May 31 during two seatings at Lazaridis Hall on Laurier’s Waterloo campus. A lunch seating will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by a dinner seating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Empty Bowls is open to the public and donations to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region are encouraged. All guests will receive a handmade bowl created by a member of the Waterloo Potters’ Workshop.
Tickets can be purchased online starting May 1, 2023. Each ticket purchased helps provide 150 meals to people accessing food assistance programs and support in Waterloo Region. Spearheaded in 1998 by the Waterloo Potters' Workshop, the Empty Bowls initiative has provided more than 1.1 million meals to those in need.
Accessibility accommodation can be arranged with the Food Bank of Waterloo Region by email at info@thefoodbank.ca. For more information about the event, contact Suzanne Luke, curator of the Robert Langen Art Gallery, at sluke@wlu.ca or follow the gallery on Instagram.
