I have an Honours BA in History from the University of Windsor, an MA in History from Durham University, UK, an MLIS from the University of Western Ontario and a Graduate Professional Certificate in Library Sector Leadership from the University of Victoria.
I have several different research areas. I am investigating the ecosystem around scholarly publishing especially with regards to the monograph but also the open access movement. In addition, I look at the place of both the librarian and the publisher in that ecosystem. This has led to the study of the role of the librarian, especially the liaison librarian in the current academic climate. I frequently approach this using deconstructionist theory to get to the underlying assumptions that are being made.
As Head, Collection Development and Acquisitions, I manage the acquisitions budget for the library. This encompasses the entire spectrum of collection management for both electronic and physical items, including vendor relations and license negotiations.
Additionally, I have the Scholarly Communications portfolio and oversee Scholars Commons @ Laurier, the institutional repository. I also lead the Scholarly Communications team in the library where we monitor, participate in and create outreach around issues such as scholarly communication, electronic theses and dissertations, and academic publishing trends.
