Hailed as “thrillingly powerful” by The New York Times and “a major talent” by The Toronto Star, I am a voice teacher and performer specializing in Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM), including musical theatre, pop, jazz, and commercial styles. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Voice) from California State University, Fresno and pursued graduate studies in voice at University of Illinois and University of Texas. My professional training also includes apprenticeships with Glimmerglass Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Chautauqua Opera.
In addition to my work at Wilfrid Laurier University, I have taught at Sheridan College, Stratford Summer Music Academy, the Stratford Festival, and the Charlottetown Festival. My students have gone on to perform with Mirvish Productions, the Stratford Festival, and other leading theatre companies across North America, as well as appear on America’s Got Talent.
My performance career spans Broadway productions including Jesus Christ Superstar, Kismet, Of Thee I Sing, and Baz Luhrmann's La Bohème, as well as major theatre companies, symphonies, and jazz venues throughout North America. I spent twelve seasons performing with the Stratford Festival and two seasons with the Shaw Festival, experiences that continue to inform my work as a teacher and mentor. Recent theatre credits include the award-winning Toronto production of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and Soulpepper's A Strange Loop. My classical performance experience includes appearances with New York City Opera, Pacific Opera Victoria, Hawaii Opera Theatre, and Vancouver Opera amongst others.
Film and television credits include The Producers, Queen Tut, Good Sam, Murdoch Mysteries, and Departure. I am featured on numerous recordings, including the Juno-nominated Dark Star Requiem, and have received two Dora Awards, two Toronto Theatre Critics Awards, and four Metropolitan Opera National Council Awards.
My teaching combines extensive professional experience with a strong technical foundation, helping students develop healthy, versatile, and expressive voices while preparing them for the diverse demands of today’s performance industry.
After my first year at Laurier, I can honestly say that I love being part of this Faculty of Music. One of the things that makes it so special is the way students from different programs, backgrounds, and career goals all come together to create, collaborate, and learn from one another. Music is a collaborative art form—we can't make music without each other—and Laurier embraces that idea in a remarkable way. As a teacher, it's incredibly rewarding to watch students discover just how far they can go, both as artists and as collaborators. The creativity, generosity, and sense of community here make it an inspiring place to teach.
