As a composer, I write notably un-classical music for classical instruments. Through simple patterning and subtle variation, I seek to build intricate yet clear structures and sounds.
As a performer, I do exactly the opposite; I create noisy and chaotic textures, usually with mutant guitars or homemade circuits. I often root around in thrift stores, hunting for odd sounds in the world of forgotten electronics.
Somewhere between these two extremes lies my work as a sound designer. I have spent countless hours in darkened sound booths crafting rich soundscapes for productions of several theatrical works.
I am also committed to fostering music in the community, having held various administrative and organizational roles in several local arts and not-for-profit organizations.
Academically, I hold a BMus degree from Laurier, as well as MMus and DMus degrees from the University of Alberta.

I feel very fortunate to be teaching at my alma mater. My years as a Laurier student were among the most formative of my life; I was constantly exposed to new and exciting ideas and people (many of whom are still close friends and colleagues), and was given the freedom to explore my own creativity in a real and meaningful way. As a teacher, I strive to help students develop their own creative voice by exploring the intersections between imagination and technique.
