Laurier employee Ted Collins has made 78 blood donations as a Laurier donor. His next appointment on July 5 will mark his 79th time giving blood. Give blood as part of Laurier's Partners for Life team.
The date and time are booked in Wilfrid Laurier University employee Ted Collins’ calendar. On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Collins will make his 69th blood donation.
“Donating blood has been an easy thing for me to do, and it helps those who need it,” says Collins, coordinator: game day operations in the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
Collins has donated blood regularly since 2005, inspired by a conversation with his father and uncle, both regular blood donors.
Collins’ blood donations support Laurier’s commitment to Canadian Blood Services’ Partner for Life program. Each calendar year, the university makes a pledge of blood donations. To date, more than 260 units of blood have been donated by members of the Laurier community, bringing the university closer to achieving its pledge of 350 donations in 2020.
“It’s incredible to see the Laurier community’s support for Canadian Blood Services,” says Connie MacDonald, director of government and community relations at Laurier. “These are uncertain times, but the need for blood donations has not changed, and I am proud that members of the university’s campus communities continue to donate.”
Laurier faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members can book a blood donation appointment online. To have your donation support Laurier’s pledge, complete the Partners for Life Member Registration form and include Laurier’s partner ID (WILF001529) or tell clinic staff to count your donation in Laurier’s pledge.
It is safe to donate blood during COVID-19. Visit Canadian Blood Services’ website for details about donor health requirements, screening measures and cleaning practices. If you are unsure if you are eligible to donate, please visit the Canadian Blood Services eligibility page or call 1-888-2-Donate to talk with a nurse.
