Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

We know that you can only do your best when you're feeling your best, so student wellness is a priority at Laurier.

Our goal is to provide you with seamless, coordinated care and collaborative services. Our staff are professional, compassionate and provide respectful personal care. When you enter the Student Wellness Centre, you'll feel comfortable, welcomed and supported.

There are many dimensions to wellness that affect your personal and academic success, which is why our Student Wellness Centres provide services in the following areas.

Physical Health

There's a strong relationship between healthy bodies and healthy minds, so we place great importance on your physical health.

In addition to our health services, we offer programming that deals with other aspects of your physical wellbeing, including nutrition, exercise and sleep – all things that affect student success.

Emotional and Mental Health

Mental health is a continuum, and you may find yourself in different places on that continuum throughout your university career. We recognize the need for unique supports that help you no matter what point you're at on your mental health continuum.

For students with ongoing or first-time mental health challenges, we have a mental health nurse and case manager. We also have a Mental Health Education Group that works to develop strategic initiatives that empower students to create innovative, peer-to-peer mental health programming.

Financial Wellness

Financial wellness is an important element of your overall health, because students experiencing financial challenges may experience elevated anxiety and stress.

It's our goal to assist all Laurier students in becoming more financially literate and educated.

Safety and Security

Our main priority is your safety, in all its forms: physical, emotional, social, spiritual and cultural.

There are a variety of departments, resources and programs at Laurier that support student safety. We also offer many opportunities for you to learn more about your personal safety through alcohol and sexual health education programs.

Gendered Violence Prevention and Support

At Laurier, we are committed to fostering a university culture where:

  • Gendered and sexual violence is unacceptable and is not tolerated;
  • Survivors are believed and supported with compassion, dignity and respect;
  • There are a range of supports available to survivors, which are responsive to their intersecting identities, lived experiences, and healing needs;
  • All members of the university community have access to education about gendered and sexual violence; and
  • Individuals and groups who commit acts of gendered and/or sexual violence are held accountable through university procedures that follow principles of fairness.
