Laurier’s Brantford campus has appealing 19th century architecture mixed with modern interiors that have attracted the film industry for years. Here is a selection of recent films and TV shows that have used our campus as a backdrop.

Reacher
2023 (TV)
Laurier was transformed into an American university for an upcoming season of the action series, Reacher. Laurier’s Post House residence, Carnegie Building and the Student Union building were all part of this multi-day filming production.
Umbrella Academy
2023 (TV)
The hit Netflix show Umbrella Academy used streets in downtown Brantford in front of the Laurier Brantford YMCA to film for its next season. The intersection of Queen and Colborne became the site of one of the final battles for this band of dysfunctional superheroes.
Undercover Holiday
2022 (Film)
One Market, Dalhousie Street and Georgie Street were sprinkled with holiday cheer for this holiday movie that takes place in fictional Squirrel Hollow.
The Handmaid's Tale

This show has used several locations in Brantford, including Laurier’s One Market, Carnegie and more for the television adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel.
The Whispering
2021 (Film)
Lecture halls of Laurier’s Research and Academic Centre lent to major scenes in this thrilling drama set in Maryland.
Frankie Drake
2020 (TV)
The Carnegie building was transformed into a backdrop for this 1920s-era all-female private detective series.
Awake
2019 (Film)
The urban landscape in downtown Brantford, including the Expositor Building was transformed into a post-apocalyptic set for this Netflix drama.
Murdoch Mysteries
2011-2017, 2020, 2022, 2023 (TV)
This famously Canadian mystery series set around the 1900s has repeatedly used Laurier’s Carnegie and Post House buildings for their historical set.
Race for the White House
2019 (TV)
In this historical CNN drama, the Carnegie Building was transformed into the office of Senator Barak Obama and steps of congress.
In the Shadow of the Moon
2018 (Film)
If you look closely, you may recognize the facades of Expositor Place and the surrounding streets, which were made to look like 1980’s Philadelphia for this thriller for Netflix.
The Cuban
2018 (Film)
This drama explores power of music over Alzheimer's with Oscar winning star, Louis Gossett Jr. was shot using scenes shot all over Brantford, including Laurier’s Brantford campus.
