An Advisory in regard to USB Devices

The ITS department would like to advise the Laurier community to not insert other peoples' USB devices into their computer. There is currently a Windows virus on campus that can jump from a USB device to a computer. Unfortunately our virus protection software does not currently detect this virus.

If you must share files as part of your work then we recommend that you use Novell drives. If Novell file sharing is inappropriate and you must use foreign USB devices then you should ensure that the Windows XP autorun facility is disabled on your computer. For the tech savy, instructions for disabling autorun can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autorun#On-click_autorun. Other users should place a work order with the ITS HelpDesk.
