Email and Computer Access
The ITS Help Desk is available to provide answers to your questions on computer-related problems, including network connectivity, hardware and software issues, or email matters. ITS will provide you with general instructions on logging into the Laurier network and accessing your Laurier email account. ITS also maintains a comprehensive library of online resources to help you with your computing problems. For more information, consult the ITS web site. Each new Laurier student who has accepted a final offer of admission is issued an email address and 25 MB of storage on one of Laurierís servers. The standard format for this address is the first four letters of your last name and the last four digits of your Laurier ID number. For example, John Smithís email address is email@example.com.
Email is one of the official means by which the university will communicate with you. Official notices and questions from the university will be forwarded to this email address, so you must be prepared to access the mailbox at this address.
The ITS department will provide you with instructions on setting up and accessing your Laurier email account. You can also find these instructions on the ITS web site, or by calling the ITS Help Desk at (519) 884-0710 ext. 4357 (HELP).
Students are expected to regularly check their Laurier email account for important notices from the university community. Students are required to send emails to official members of the university community from their Laurier email account in order to ensure delivery. Emails sent from non-Laurier accounts, such as hotmail, may be identified as spam and not delivered. Furthermore, it is impossible to determine whether the emails received from these non-Laurier accounts are coming from the person they claim to be from.
