Music Therapy Placements
The Master of Music Therapy requires two placements in Year 1 for students in the 2-year program (Winter and Spring terms). Individual sessions are at Laurierís on-site clinics and group sessions are in the community. On-site clinics accommodate individual and group sessions, and collaborative research studies (e.g. music in medicine, musiciansí health, music and imagery). Audio, video and editing facilities enable students to conduct clinical assessments, prepare professional case-study material, and to analyze musical processes for improvisational music therapy research.
There is a
one-day-per-week practicum for students in their second year as well as the
1-year students. This practicum takes place at a facility off-campus, for
example, mental health units (children, adolescents), hospitals/complex care,
long-term care facilities, schools, womenís shelters, palliative/hospice care in
the Waterloo Region, including Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph as well
as the Toronto area.
Qualified and experienced music therapists provide supervision for all placements.
