International Undergraduate Bursaries
DEFINITION: a bursary is a monetary gift based on demonstrated financial need and satisfactory academic achievement. Bursaries do not have to be paid back to the university. Students may only receive one bursary assessment per academic year, to an established maximum amount.
Bursary assistance for international students is only available during the fall and winter terms; due to extremely limited funding, no bursary assistance is available during the spring or summer terms. Note that the amount of financial assistance available through these bursaries is very small in relation to the total cost of full-time attendance at university.
The total amount of available bursary funds are divided equally between all eligible applicants. International students must have adequate resources to finance their education apart from any assistance provided by the university. Basic living and education costs are to be met by the student or their sponsor.
Applications for these bursaries are accepted only after registration at Laurier and the commencement of classes.
Applications are not assessed until after the deadline date. Allocations made under this program will be applied directly to accounts with the Business Office by early March. Note that if granted a bursary, it may not be applied to account before tuition for the winter term is due; students are responsible for payment of any late fees. Applicants are assessed based on income and expenses for the period September to April (8 months). Bursary assistance is not available during the spring and summer terms.
The bursaries on our database search engine are available by application for full-time international undergraduate students who are experiencing unexpected expenses. Only one bursary application is required; once the general international (VISA) bursary application is completed and submitted, students will be considered for all bursary opportunities which are listed on the search engine.
