Women's Campus Safety Committee

Have a safety concern? Submit a proposal. Over $20,000 distributed per year!

The Women's Campus Safety Committee is now accepting funding proposals that address women's safety issues on our campuses. Over $20,000 in funding will be distributed.  Proposals are due Tuesday, March 18th by 4:30pm and should be sent to Humera Javed at hjaved@wlu.ca or Lynn Kane at lkane@wlu.ca

The mandate of Women's Campus Safety Committee is to review and approve proposals which offer ways to enhance safety for women on Laurier's campuses through the use of the Federal Government's Women's Campus Safety Grant.

Successful projects include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implementation of campus safety audit recommendations;
  • Education initiatives, including research initiatives, which address women's safety and security issues;
  • Support to programs that address the safety and security needs of female staff, faculty and students.

Proposals do not need to be long in length, but must include the following headings and information:

  • Summary of Proposal
  • What are the objectives of the project?
  • Project Leader: The Project Leader is the person responsible for implementing and managing the project.
  • Impact on Women's Safety at Laurier. Describe the project's benefits to women on campus.
  • Budget Details: Provide a budget for the project, including quotes for goods or services. Will you have any other sources of funding?
  • When will your project start? End?

*Please note: all funds must be distributed to a university departmental budget (WLUSU and GSA are included). Student-submitted proposals should indicate the name of the department that will manage the budget.

If you have any questions, or would like to submit a proposal, please contact Humera Javed, Committee Co-Chair at hjaved@wlu.ca  or at extension 4584. You may also wish to visit the Women's Campus Safety Committee website at http://www.wlu.ca/page.php?grp_id=2465&p=20986
