Dean and Eight Students Visit China

The Laurier Faculty of Education is strengthening its partnership with schools in China. Dean Willard-Holt traveled to China in February to provide workshops for teachers in five private schools owned by Laurier Honorary Doctorate holder Francis Pang. The topic of the workshops was Critical and Creative Thinking as an important element of 21st Century Learning Skills. Eight current B.Ed. students (pictured below at left) will complete extended practicum placements in May at one of Dr. Pang’s schools, the Canadian International School of Beijing (pictured below at right), which enrols many children of diplomats. Laurier Bachelor of Education alumna Laura Richards (2011) teaches grade 2 at the school. Each international practicum student will be placed in one or two classrooms for 5 weeks, teaching children in a multinational setting. The school follows a Canadian curriculum as well as the International Baccalaureate. This opportunity is invaluable in developing a global perspective and honing teaching skills in quite a different type of setting than South Central Ontario!
