Faculty of Education
The Faculty of Education fosters excellence in teacher education and scholarship through inquiry, reflection and collaborative sustained partnerships in learning. Laurier offers both a Bachelor and Master of Education with emphasis on time spent in the classroom and practice-based inquiry.
We appreciate the continued support of alumni, community partners and corporations who contribute to student success. Their investment enables us to provide unique education, research and programming opportunities.
Student Support: Financial assistance for students through scholarships, bursaries or awards helps them maximize their educational experience. Options are available to contribute to existing financial aid programs or establish new ones, perhaps in honour of someone.
Program Support: The Faculty of Education offers innovative programs that engage the community, support child development and provide research and learning opportunities for students. The following examples benefit from donor support:
Little CountersTM works with parents and their infants and toddlers to help the children develop a critically important understanding of numeracy through purposeful play, songs and activities.
LEAP (Laurier Enriched Academic Program) is an innovative day camp offered to gifted and highly able children and youth who benefit from creative approaches to learning. LEAP camps are offered Saturday mornings January-March; week-long camps are held in July. Donor funding assists families who otherwise could not afford to send their children to LEAP.
Aboriginal Art Education Project engages Aboriginal high school students through the creation, expression and discussion of art, culminating in an exhibit of studentsí work. The project initiates discussion and understanding of studentsí different cultural experiences.
InTERSECT (Institute for Teaching, Educational Research, Scholarly Excellence and Creative Thinking): is an exciting opportunity to connect students, researchers, teachers and parents to provide supplementary educational opportunities for children. Services offered will coincide with the research expertise of faculty, including literacy and numeracy development, professional development in educational technology, gifted education, education for gifted students with disabilities, and professional development for providers of early learning.
