Best Voice Forward: A Voice Audition Workshop at Laurier

If the answer to any or all of these questions is NO, then Best Voice Forward is the workshop for you!

Best Voice Forward is a workshop for young emerging operatic and concert artists who wish to hone their auditioning techniques. Working in seminar, master class and one-on-one settings, instructors Kimberly Barber, mezzo-soprano, voice professor, workshop clinician and panelist, and Emily Hamper, voice coach and accompanist, will lead this workshop designed to help you pinpoint your strengths and discover the repertoire which will represent you best.

This two-day workshop involves coaching, repertoire selection, peer work, seminars on dress, resumes, headshots, focusing/anxiety-management techniques and culminates in a mock audition with peer and instructor feedback. For more information about Best Voice Forward, please click here.

2011 Central Ontario Band Workshop

This September, approximately 130 select high school students from south central Ontario gather at Laurier for the opportunity to practice their craft under the direction of a guest conductor, Laurier music faculty and a variety of high school music educators. Intensive Studies in Voice

Since the inception of the Voice Department at Laurier in 1969, there have been workshops of various kinds for voice students during the spring and summer of every year. This unique program provides nine uninterrupted weeks of concentrated study with emphasis on voice techniques and repertoire. Each student receives two and one-half hours per week of individual instruction. This consists of one hour per week with the designated voice pedagogue, one hour per week with the assigned coach, and one-half hour per week of performance in master class. Ensemble work will also receive some emphasis within this framework. A series of recitals allows further opportunity for performance and the development of the vital relationship between soloist and accompanist.
