Advising in Residence

Hi! I'm Crystal Shadwell, and I am the Faculty of Arts' Academic Mentor!

I have been a proud Laurier Golden Hawk for almost 10 years!  I completed my BA Kinesiology and Physical Education degree, with a Minor in English. Outside the classroom is where my love for Laurier grew, as I was a varsity athlete, worked as a Residence Life Don, and had many volunteer roles on campus. On graduation I worked as a Residence Life Coordinator at the University of Manitoba. I returned to Laurier in 2011 working in Recruitment & Admissions, where I had the great opportunity to share what Laurier has to offer for our prospective students.

I love interacting with students, helping them from 1st year all the way through to graduation.  Whether it is a simple one-time conversation or a more in-depth issue, I am always here to help.  The majority of students I interact with are in the General BA without Designation, or any on academic probation. I can help interpret the rules of the Academic Calendar, guide you through a petition request, among many other requests.

What is an Academic Mentor you ask? My role is to help first year students with academic related questions. I am here to assist if students have questions about their major, changing majors, progression requirements, how to add an option or minor, or if your have questions about taking courses at another institution, etc. I'm here to assist you with any and all academic related questions!

Where can I be found?

I will be physically located in a number of residence buildings, on a rotating basis, this fall and winter terms, Monday through Thursday from 2:30-6:30 pm. Information on what residence I will be located in, will updated regularly.  More information is still to come!
