Building Standard
The final proposed Accessible Built Environment Standard provides recommendations to government on how to remove barriers in buildings and outdoor spaces for people with disabilities.
The standard was developed by a committee composed of people representing:
- disability communities
- not-for-profit organizations
- broader public sector
- businesses, and
- building industry.
The initial proposed standard was released for public review from July 14, 2009 to October 16, 2009.
The committee revised the initial draft standard to reflect the public’s input. At their last meeting on May 28, 2010, the committee voted on the standard clause by clause.
The standard was re-opened to public review prior to October 1st, 2012. With this feedback taken into consideration, a final draft of the standard will be prepared for approval.
