The Financial Resources department is excited to offer a
series of finance-based workshops available for faculty and staff starting
February, 2012. The purpose of these workshops is to offer training to faculty and staff on finance related rules, procedures, and software at Laurier.
Each workshop is approximately 1 hour long and followed by a question and answer (Q&A) period. Registration for the workshops can be
done online using the Human Resources Learning and Organization Development
website, found here, under the "Other" category.
A brief description of each workshop offered can be found below. For the workshop schedule, and to register for a workshop, please visit the Human Resources Learning and Organization Development website. All workshops are offered in room R270 at 202 Regina Street, Waterloo.
This workshop will teach users how to use the Finance Reporting module within Millennium and some commonly used Banner forms. The finance reporting module can be used to view financial information such as revenues and expenses. The workshop will focus on how to access, sort, filter, display, and download the information required by the user for analysis or validation as well as viewing and approving documents within Banner. This training may be helpful to faculty who wish to track their various grants and research funds, as well as administrators for tracking their departments and budgets. No previous banner or millennium knowledge is required; however, please bring with you the index numbers (organization number or research grant number) you would like to access.
This workshop will teach users how to use the Journal Vouchers module within Millennium. This module can be used make transfers and adjustments to revenues and expenses. The workshop will focus on how to create, edit, and view journal vouchers. This training may be helpful to department managers and staff who make a high volume of transfer requests. Working knowledge of Millennium and a basic understand of the WLU accounting system is required.
This workshop will teach users about basic bookkeeping at Laurier. The workshop will focus on the basics of bookkeeping, the accounting system and software used at Laurier, and the WLU chart of accounts. This training may be helpful to new staff, faculty, and managers who would like to be acquainted to finance at Laurier. No previous knowledge is required.
This workshop will teach users about the various expense forms at Laurier. The workshop will focus on how to complete and submit the expense forms, as well as the most common expense reimbursement rules and policies. This training may be helpful to new staff and faculty as well as long-tenured staff and faculty who could use an update on current practices. No previous knowledge is required.
This workshop will focus on the BPS legislation and its impact on procurement and expense policy and procedures at Laurier. This training is mandatory for all staff and faculty who participant in procurement or the submission of expense claims, other than PER claims. This is the same training session that has been offered since August 2011; staff and faculty who have already completed this training in previous sessions do not need to repeat it. No previous knowledge is required.
