Laurier centre celebrates International Women’s Day with all-day workshop

Mar 8/13

On March 8, Wilfrid Laurier University’s Centre for Women in Science (WinS) collaborated with Perimeter Institute and University of Waterloo to create an all-day workshop in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The workshop, titled “Women in Physics: Past, Present, and Future,” brought together female and male historians, philosophers and social scientists, as well as physicists from Perimeter Institute and elsewhere. The keynote speakers included NASA scientist Adriana Ocampo, who discovered the crater made by the meteor that killed the dinosaurs, and AIP scientist Rachel Ivie, who conducted the global survey of physicists – the largest survey of scientists ever done.

“This event showcased the diverse and important contributions of female physicists and examined ways to create a healthy and supportive environment for both male and female scientists,” said Laurier Associate Professor Shohini Ghose, who is also director of WinS and was one of the day’s speakers.
