Laurier mourns the passing of retired biology professor Robert McCauley

Mar 4/13

The Wilfrid Laurier University community mourns the passing of retired biology professor Robert McCauley on March 1 at the age of 86.

McCauley started teaching at Laurier in 1965 when it was known as Waterloo Lutheran University. He was the third member of the university’s biology department. McCauley’s expertise was fish physiology and he was a pioneer in the study of temperature on fish survival. At Laurier he developed courses in animal physiology, fish biology and limnology (also called freshwater science), and was a strong believer in hands-on fieldwork for students.

McCauley continued his research and publishing papers well past his retirement in 1992. He also contributed articles to scientific journals, magazines and newspapers, including The Waterloo Region Record and The Globe and Mail, right up to his death.

McCauley’s full obituary can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/12ngJkU.
