Laurier's Faculty of Arts celebrates launch of new books

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Jun 1/12

Laurier’s Faculty of Arts is celebrating the launch of new books from two professors in the Communication Studies Department.

Paul Heyer, an expert on how the Titanic and its tragic story are represented in the media, has authored a new book titled Titanic Century: Media, Myth, and the Making of a Cultural Icon (Praeger). The book examines the relationship between the disaster, the media involved in reporting and preserving the event, and the resulting transformation of the sinking of the Titanic into an enduring myth in contemporary popular culture.

Jonathon Finn, an expert in visual culture and communication, has edited Visual Communication and Culture: Images in Action (Oxford). The book compiles 25 articles  — both previously published and original compositions — to examine the production and interpretation of images across a variety of disciplines.

Staff, faculty and the general public are invited to celebrate the launch of both books Friday, June 1 at 6 p.m. at The Embassy Grill & Bar in Waterloo.
