The fun of achieving. The Annual Senior (11/12) German High School Contest 2013

Jun 11/13

The German section of the Department of Languages & Literatures welcomed 18 high school students from 5 different high schools of the Waterloo region to the Annual Senior (11/12) German High School Contest 2013 on May 17.

The students competed in the categories grammar, audiovisual understanding, composition and oral competency.
The topic for the composition was this year "Freundschaft und Liebe" ('Friendship and Love') and in the audio-visual exam the participants tried to figure out an alleged murder of a chicken, based on a video clip of the German TV-show "Wetten dass ....", the equivalent of the North-American show "Hidden Camera".

The German section of the Department was delighted to hear that - like every year - some of the participants will return as Laurier students in the Fall.

The deserved winners are:
Regular Category: Rebecca Chapeskie (Bluevale Collegiate)
Advanced Category:  Alicia Mell (Concordia German Language School)
School Trophy: Bluevale Collegiate (Teacher: Linda Jung)
High cash prizes for the top ranking students will be awarded by the German-Canadian Business and Professional Association of Kitchener- Waterloo in October.
