Wilfrid Laurier University welcomes Wilson Avenue Public School!
On Thursday, November 15, 2012 Laurier will open its doors to 110 grade 5 & 6 students from Wilson Avenue Public School in Kitchener. Through a community outreach event organized by the Laurier Sociology Students’ Association (LSSA), students from Wilson Avenue will have the opportunity to witness university life firsthand, and will be given the chance to start thinking about their future, and realize that a university education is well within their grasp.
In addition to learning about higher education, students will participate in an interactive mini lecture from the Laurier “JUMP” program, and take a tour of the campus. Wilson Avenue students will listen to short presentations from undergraduate students who are balancing academics with extracurricular activities. It is hoped that this positive role-modeling will have an impact on young students’ current and future educational choices.
This event has been made possible by sponsorship from Dean of Arts Office, CICDA, LSSA, and the Sociology department.
