Postdoctoral Researcher John Grundy awarded a SSHRC Partnership Grant

Jul 24/13

Political Science Postdoctoral researcher, John Grundy, is part of a research
team recently awarded a five-year SSHRC Partnership Grant for a project titled
“Closing The Enforcement Gap: Improving Employment Standards Protection for
People in Precarious Jobs”. Led by Leah Vosko (York University) and Mary
Gellatly (Parkdale Community Legal Services), the project involves researchers
from seven universities and sixteen partner organizations. The team will study
the enforcement of the Ontario government’s Employment Standards Act, which sets
minimum conditions in areas such as wages, vacations, and working time. John
serves as co-lead of a working group that is developing a telephone survey of
low-wage workers in Ontario. The overall objective of the project is to document
the nature and prevalence of employment standards violations in Ontario and to
develop recommendations for improving their enforcement in Ontario and other
jurisdictions.
