WATERLOO – Lori Ransom an ordained elder of The Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC), a  member of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation in eastern Ontario and presently a Senior Advisor responsible for relations with churches and other faith communities for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada will giving a public lecture at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary.

The tile of her presentation is “Yesterday and Tomorrow: Reflection on Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”  Elder Ransom will speak at 10:30 am, Wednesday, 28 May 2014, in the Keffer Chapel at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary.  Ms. Ransom’s lecture will be followed by round table discussions. The event is sponsored by Waterloo Lutheran Seminary’s Center for Public Faith and Laurier's Office of Aboriginal Initiatives.

Ms. Ransom will share what the Commission has learned about what happened in residential schools.  She will provide a perspective on how faith groups have responded to the TRC process.  She will also offer some ideas for future work by churches and faith groups in working toward renewal and reconciliation in Canada’s relationship with First Nations peoples.

Prior to her work with the TRC, Ransom led work to support healing and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples for The PCC, building on her public relations and education work as the Director of Executive Services and Communications for the Government of Canada’s Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development in Ontario.  She is the Clerk of Session, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Toronto.  Lori co-chaired the Mission and Power theme study group for Edinburgh 2010:  Witnessing to Christ Together centenary mission conference.

Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, supported by the Eastern Synod, is one of two theological schools of the 190,000-member Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada and is a federated college of Wilfrid Laurier University.
