WATERLOO – Dan Gould, an internationally renowned researcher and practitioner in sport psychology, will deliver Laurier’s annual Dr. Fred Binding Lecture in Sport Psychology on April 3. The lecture, titled “Promoting Youth Leadership through Sport,” begins at 7 p.m. in the Senate and Board Chamber on Laurier’s Waterloo campus.

During the lecture, Gould will review and critique research examining the role that sport and physical education play in developing youth leadership to derive implications for guiding professional practice. Gould will place emphasis on the need for teachers and coaches to be much more intentional in structuring climates that are conducive to developing leadership, and to implement specific strategies to develop youth leadership.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to listen to one of the top sport psychology professionals in the world speak about a very timely topic,” said Mark Eys, associate professor of Kinesiology and Physical Education. “We greatly encourage community members and Laurier faculty, staff and students to attend.”

Gould is a professor of Applied Sport Psychology at Michigan State University and director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports.

This lecture is free and open to the public.
