Employee Success Factors net Wilfrid Laurier University national prize

Jun 29/12

Wilfrid Laurier University won the national second prize in the Canadian Association of University Business Officers’ (CAUBO) 2012 Quality and Productivity Awards, for Laurier’s Employee Success Factors initiative.

Melanie Will, Pamela Cant, Allison Roberts and Jennifer Porritt were presented with the award during the CAUBO annual conference, June 18-19 in Montreal, Quebec.

In 2010, Laurier’s Human Resources department worked closely with a committee of employees to define positive attitudes, behaviours, work styles and interactions that align with the university’s mission, vision and values to creative a successful organization. The committee sought to answer the question, “How do Laurier’s values translate into the way people carry out their everyday work?” The five Employee Success Factors were created to reflect Laurier’s values and articulate how those values can be demonstrated by staff and faculty.

Over the past two years, the Success Factors have provided the foundation for human resources programming and have been integrated into learning and development programs, including staff development day, recruitment processes, performance assessments and merit programs. The Success Factors also form the basis of Laurier’s new employee recognition awards.

“The Success Factors speak to the importance of how we perform and approach our work, not just what we do,” said Jim Butler, president of CAUBO and Laurier’s vice-president, finance and administration. “Laurier’s Human Resources team has integrated the Success Factors into many programs and services, and this integration has been key to their success and impact. They are very deserving of this award.”
