Canadian Excellence

The Canadian Association of Cultural Studies (CACS) is a national organization devoted to both promoting teaching and research in Cultural Studies and to fostering connections to community groups and practices outside the traditional sphere of academia.

CACS is currently housed at Wilfrid Laurier University under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts and the Cultural Studies program. In order to make the organization accessible to different geographic regions, CACS relocates every four years (past CACS homes include McMaster University, the University of Alberta, and McGill University), and each home lends a particular inflection to the organization.

During its tenure at Laurier, CACS will host two conferences at the university. The first, exploring the theme of Dispersions, will take place from January 16-19, 2014. The second conference will take place in 2016.

A second focus of CACS is to make tangible connections with social, political and community groups in both Kitchener-Waterloo and the broader Southern Ontario region. In this capacity, CACS has already set in motion plans for events around Southern Ontario's vibrant food culture; digital cultural practices and activism; and digital art practices.

For more information and updates about upcoming CACS conferences and events, see the CACS website.
