Biography
Kate (nee: Brand) Tippin has been providing strategic communications solutions in the post-secondary education sector for more than 13 years.

She has expertise creating comprehensive communications programs to engage: alumni and key stakeholders; prospective donors; employees; prospective undergraduate students, parents, and guidance counsellors; peer faculty at competitor institutions; and current students. She has received several awards for her work, including an International Association of Business Communicators Virtuoso Award for web communications.

Kate is the past editor of Skulematters, an alumni magazine for Engineering at the University of Toronto, where she rebuilt the magazine to better meet the needs of alumni and to integrate institutional key messages.

At U of T, she was part of a dynamic team responsible for securing $15M in donations in one year. Kate’s involvement included writing the case for support, building a purposeful alumni communications program, and implementing an inspiring direct mail campaign.

Media activities expanded under her leadership at U of T Engineering. Over two years, she increased the placement of faculty experts and stories in internal publications by 170% and mass media by 850%. As a rewarding result of the enhanced reputation of the Faculty, the Times Higher Education and U.S. News & World Report both reported a rise in world ranking of U of T Engineering to 8th in the world in 2010, up by nearly 20 places from 2006.

Kate has considerable experience implementing branding solutions. In the past six years, she has led two major branding initiatives; both resulted in successful integrated marketing campaigns with comprehensive buy-in from diverse stakeholders.

Known for her leadership and natural ability to build community and inspire teams to work together to achieve a strategic vision, Kate also has advanced skills managing staff in a highly unionized environment.
