Biography

Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, violinist Marcus Scholtes is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music degree in Violin Performance at Indiana University in the studio of renowned pedagogue Mimi Zweig. Achieving high academic standing, he has also been an Associate Instructor of Violin at IU for the last three years. He holds a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he studied with Yehonatan Berick, and an Honours Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University, Montreal, where he studied with Richard Roberts.

Mr. Scholtes has attended summer festivals in Canada, the USA, and Europe. Most recently, he performed for the Britten-Pears String Residency at the Aldeburgh Festival in Suffolk, England in October 2010. Summer 2011 will mark three years of his involvement with the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Germany, and this year the orchestra will travel to Spain and Turkey. In 2007, Mr. Scholtes attended the Killington Music Festival in Vermont as an Artist Apprentice, and in 2006, he participated in the AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria. Outside of his musical interests, he enjoys reading philosophy, jogging, cycling, and fishing.
