Looking for a Rewarding On-Campus Volunteer Opportunity?
Become a Career Centre Peer!

Career Centre Peers (CCPs) are essential to the success of the Career Centre.

Being a Career Centre Peer provides you with an excellent opportunity to build your work-related skills and increase your knowledge of career development strategies. You will work individually and as a part of a team in specific roles within the program. The CCP Program is also a valuable addition to your Laurier Co-curricular record and resumé.

CCPs fall under the following categories:

Marketing and Peer Outreach (4)

These CCPs assist with the promotion of Career Centre events, services and programs. They staff weekly Career Centre information tables on campus to deliver resumé critiques and promote the Career Centre to their peers, develop/implement marketing plans for several key Career Centre events, and develop/co-ordinate Career Centre contests and outreach initiatives.

This position will allow you to develop your presentation, marketing, consulting and organizational skills. We need volunteers who are outgoing, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and are passionate about helping their peers succeed.

Video Production (2-3)

Video Producers are responsible for the production of short educational videos on career development topics and promotional videos to increase student awareness of the importance of career planning and Career Centre services. These CCPs will develop video concepts, author scripts, co-ordinate video shoots, collect video footage and perform editing to produce polished, quality videos to be broadcast in workshops, our website, and on screens around campus.

This role will allow you to develop your writing, time management, collaboration and technical video skills. We need volunteers who are creative, detail-oriented, and familiar with (or have a keen interest in learning) the basics of video editing. The ability to use a Mac for editing is preferred, but not required.

Research/Writing/Reporting (2-3)

These CCPs will be responsible for maintaining the Laurier Career Centre student blog, conducting interviews with alumni on their career paths to produce Career Profile resources, writing relevant articles for the Career Forward e-newsletter, and attending various Career Centre events to report the results to the Career Centre team.

This position will allow you to develop your research, writing, editing and time management skills. We need volunteers who are creative, detail-oriented and willing to devote the time to produce engaging, quality work.

_____________________________

Recruiting for Career Centre Peers begins each year in March.
New volunteers begin preparation for their duties in advance by completing e-training over the summer months. Then, they participate in approximately three days of on-site training during Orientation Week in September.

What are the requirements to apply?

In addition to the qualities listed above for each role, we are looking for volunteers who will provide:

- A commitment of five hours per week in both fall and winter terms
- A passion for helping their peers succeed
- A willingness to take on projects that will enhance their own career development
- Creativity, initiative and reliability

We have high expectations of our Career Centre Peers, and they are integral to our department's success. If you are ready to take on the challenge and join our team, learn more about the CCP program by attending one of the following information sessions:

Wednesday, March 26 | 12:30 - 1 p.m. | CC-101 (Career Centre, 192 King St. N.)
Tuesday, April 1 | 6 - 6:30 p.m. | CC-001 (Career Centre, 192 King St. N.)
